The All New Square Foot Gardening
by Mel Bartholomew
Mel Bartholomew updates his ideas on Square Foot Gardening. He first published his ideas on Square Foot Gardening in 1981. 25 years later he updates his initial ideas.
In an easy to read and understand manner Mel explains how he came up with the idea for Square Foot Gardening. He also proposes that the tried and true method of gardening is fine for farms, but for the homeowner there is a better method requiring much less room and less effort.
The author provides instructions for building the garden including where to place it. A formula for the perfect gardening soil from day one. Ideas on extending the growing season. Easy maintenance and growing tips for most garden vegetables and flowers. He also includes a timeline for seeding, planting and harvesting.
I picked up and read this book in the course of two weeks. I had already started my garden for this year, so I will only be using some of his ideas for now. Next year, I intend to rework my garden as a Square Foot Garden and try to use much more of the information introduced by the author. If I follow his instruction I feel that my garden will be very productive next year!
