Exhibit: Cao Yu, Father of Modern Chinese Drama
December 16-February 14
Binghamton University's Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera (CICO) will hold an exhibit at the Broome County Public Library on Cao Yu (1910-1996), a world-renowned Chinese playwright considered to be the founding father of modern Chinese drama. The display will showcase Cao Yu's life and work. The exhibit interweaves a narrative of modern China with background about Cao Yu, the challenges faced in his life, and the impact of his experiences on making him an internationally-esteemed playwright. The exhibit was organized by Dr. Ruru Li, stepdaughter of Cao Yu and senior professor of Chinese at the University of Leeds in England, this exhibit has already been held internationally in London, the University of Leeds, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Michigan. The exhibition will be open to the public, held in the Library's first-floor colonnade.
