Joining the Library
To check out materials, you need a valid Broome County Public Library card or a library card from one of the other libraries in the Four County Library System. To apply for a card, bring identification with your name and current address on it. You will have to fill out an application form which will take a few minutes.
To fill out and print an application for a library card, click here! This can be filled out on the computer, then printed. Bring the completed form into the library at your convenience.
Library cards are free to all people who live or own property in Broome, Chenango, Delaware or Otsego Counties. Your card can be used at any of the 4CLS libraries in these counties. You can find a list of all of the 4CLS libraries on their Web site. For individuals who do not reside in one of these counties, you must pay a nonresident fee to obtain a subscription card. This subscription card can be used at any of the 4CLS member libraries. Guest cards are available for Internet use. Photo ID is required.
The loan period for most items is 3 weeks. Some videos and other items have shorter loan periods or certain restrictions.
You can renew most materials in person, by telephone or online (videos and DVDs cannot be renewed).
The library will notify you if books are overdue. Let us know promptly if you change your address or telephone number.
Lost or stolen library cards must be reported right away. Anything taken out on your card is your responsibility unless the card is reported missing.
Loan Periods, Fines and Fees
Our books can be returned to any public library in Broome, Chenango, Delaware or Otsego counties.
- Books and magazines: 3 weeks
- Books on audio and CD: 3 weeks (5 items per card)
- Videos and DVDs: 1 week (3 items per card) NON-RENEWABLE
Books and magazines may be renewed for an additional 3 weeks if there are no reserves waiting. Items may be renewed at the library, by telephone or online. DVDs and videos may NOT be renewed.
Books (including paperbacks), magazines, books on audio and CD currently in circulation, DVDs and videos may be reserved. There is a fee of 25 cents for a hold on an item.
- 10 cents/day/item: books, magazines, CDs and books on audiocassette
- 50 cents/day/item: interlibrary loan materials
- $2.00/day/item: videos and DVDs
- $5.00: paperbacks and periodicals
- $5.00: youth services hardcover books and audios
- $10.00: hardcover books, audios & CDs
- $20.00: videos & DVDs
- NO LIMIT: interlibrary loan materials
Lost Card Fee
A $3.00 fee is charged for replacing a card.
